In-Year Admissions (application for admission during Years 7 - 11)
Those parents who wish their child to be considered for entry should complete and return an In-Year Application Form, which can be found on the school's website www.whsg.info. No more than one application can be made in any one academic year.
On receipt, applicants will be written to within 15 school days with details on the test date. There are two test dates when testing takes place for each academic year, and these are published below.
Applicants for the same year group will sit a series of tests at the school.
For In-Years 7 & 8 these tests will be in English, Mathematics and Science.
For In Years 9, 10 & 11 these tests will be in English, Mathematics, Science and either French or Spanish.
Please note there are no specimen papers available.
If, based on the test performance, an applicant is deemed to meet the required standard for entry into the relevant year group, a place will be offered up to the Academy's admission limit.
If there are more applicants deemed to have met the required standard than there are places, then places will be awarded according to the schools oversubscription criteria for that year group.
Ability in English, Maths, Science and French or Spanish is indicative of a pupil's ability to cope with the demands of academic subjects in general; therefore, a candidate must score at least in line with the top 50% of our own pupils in the relevant year group in each of English, Maths, Science and French/Spanish to be deemed suitable for entry into the year group.
The application to join the school does not roll over from one academic year to the next - parents must complete an in-year application form afresh for each academic year they wish their child to be considered.
Test dates for 2022/2023 are as follows:
- Year 7 and 8 - 20th January 2023 and 11th July 2023
- Year 9, 10 and 11 - 22nd November 2022 and 27th April 2023
At all stages in the process parents/carers have the statutory right of appeal to an independent Appeals Panel
