Jack Petchey- March Winner!

3rd July 2019

March Winner - Poppy Froud

Our March winner is a pupil who gives up her Sunday mornings to participate in Beach Lifeguard Training. Poppy has completed her Beach Lifeguard Qualifications with others but because of her age she is currently a Life Saver.  She will have to retake her exam at age 16 to become a full Lifeguard.  Poppy does hours of intense fitness on the beach but also practices life-saving techniques and as a part of this course has completed First Aid training.  Poppy and a group were training this summer in the Estuary when several holiday makers and day trippers had walked across the mud at low tide and were cut off from returning on their own.  Poppy assisted 20 people across the deep water and through the mud to safety on the beach. For this brave act she was presented with the Lifeguard of the Year Award to celebrate her commitment, enthusiasm and determination. She is the youngest member of the team and hopes to continue with her qualification and eventually join the RNLI.

In school Poppy is an ABC Buddy and English Prefect and Mentor for younger students, supporting them both emotionally, socially and academically.  She has been involved with the last three school productions and was a key member of the backstage team for this year's show, Legally Blonde.

Poppy is a student who supports and champions the success of others, she is caring and determined and a fantastic role model to those around her.  Poppy has chosen to donate her £250 to the English Department.
