Jack Petchey- May Winner!

3rd July 2019

May Winner - Evie Collins

Our May winner is a pupil who is admired by both pupils and staff alike.  Evie is a student with a passion for poetry, and is often found with a notebook jotting down her most recent thoughts and ideas.  Her poems are unique and experimental, with a distinct voice.  Many members of the English Department have been overwhelmed by standard of her work.  This passion and talent has extended to her participating in many different poetry competitions and being recognised as a commended poet by The Foyle Young Poets - prestigious, and deserved, recognition.

With her flair and passion for English, it is no surprise that Evie was asked to be a mentor for younger students in the English Club within the school.  In this role, she has given up her lunchtimes to support and stretch students with great potential in English.  She is not only punctual and reliable, but enthusiastic and passionate.  Her commitment to encouraging and supporting her younger peers is admirable, and has led to some wonderful work being created collaboratively.

Evie is a student who has struggled with anxiety, but has always tried to find a way to work around it.  Her resilience, perseverance and openness has helped her overcome this.  Despite having her own challenges, she has always aimed to go above and beyond to support her peers and maintain a high level of academic success.  It is no surprise then that her teachers felt she deserved to be recognised for her personal journey, and all that she gives to the school and wider community.

Evie has chosen to donate her money to the English Department to share her love and passion for the subject with other students.
