Year 7 entry September 2020

In light of the current situation with COVID-19, our Year 7 Induction Days are likely to take place remotely.  Further details will follow nearer the time.

Westcliff High School for Girls is unable to deal with queries relating to our waiting list for school places in Year 7 for September 2020.  Parents should contact the Local Authority where they live:

Any parent whose child is refused a place has the right to appeal.

Admission appeals information is available by written request from the school. The deadline originally set for advising the Headteacher in writing that you wish to appeal was Monday 30 March 2020 via email: generalenquiries@whsg.info, providing your email, home address, child’s name, and date of birth. The school would then send you a Notice of Appeal Form to complete. The deadline for receipt of completed admission appeal documentation was Friday, 3 April 2020 at 10.00 a.m.

However, in light of the current situation surrounding the COVID-19 outbreak, updated guidance has been issued by the Department for Education with regard to the appeals process for entry to Year 7 in September 2020. The new regulations came into force on 24th April 2020.

Due to the current restrictions, it will not be possible for appeal hearings to be held in person, so the revised legislation allows for a paper based appeal where all parties can make representations in writing. Appeal hearings will be held on 25th and 26th June, based on written evidence, with an opportunity for a telephone conference call, limited to the Panel asking questions in order to clarify any points raised in the written submission. It will not be necessary for appellants to present their case as the Panel will have studied these before the telephone conference call. Also present during the conference call will be a representative of the school. Should appellants be unable to take part in the conference call, a decision will be reached based on the written submission alone.

In order to comply with the new regulations stating that appellants will be given at least 28 calendar days’ written notice of a new appeal deadline, a revised date of Friday, 22nd May 2020 has been agreed for receipt of any additional paperwork you may wish to submit in evidence.

If you have any additional evidence, seven hard copies of this should either be sent to Westcliff High School for Girls, marked for the attention of the Clerk to the Appeal, or alternatively emailed to ‘generalenquiries@whsg.info’, marked for the attention of the Headteacher's PA, Mrs. Jane Leadbeater.

The Clerk to the Appeals Panel will write to you by Friday, 12th June 2020 to provide a copy of the school’s submission as well as that submitted by the appellant, and how to access the telephone conference call.

Appeal documentation received after 22nd May 2020 may mean Appeals are not heard before the end of the Summer Term.
